If you've driven past Edge of the Desert Inn and Laundromat on the way to your next Moab adventure, you may have already done a double-take. That's intentional. Our newly unveiled exterior mural — completed in late March 2026 — is one of the most striking pieces of public art in Moab, Utah, and we couldn't be prouder to share the story behind it.
A Mural That Tells Moab's Story
Stretching across the full exterior of our office and laundromat building, this large-scale mural is a love letter to the land, the culture, and the adventurous spirit that makes Moab unlike anywhere else on earth. Every panel was thoughtfully designed to capture what makes this corner of Southern Utah so magnetic.
The Panoramic Desert Scene
Soaring geometric red rock formations, including the iconic silhouette of Delicate Arch, sweep across the longest wall. Silhouettes of hikers, mountain bikers, overlanders, and a dancing Kokopelli fill the foreground — celebrating every type of Moab adventurer beneath a golden, purple, and blue geometric sky.
The Kokopelli Wall
Electric purple lightning illuminates ancient canyon walls where glowing Kokopelli figures dance among petroglyphs. A lone camper sits fireside on a river, eagles soar beneath a full moon, and snow-capped mountains rise in the distance — capturing the spiritual depth and ancient history of the Colorado Plateau.
The Moab Hands — Photo Op Wall
Two canyon-red hands form a heart shape, cradling a swirling galaxy and a tiny glowing lantern within. This is the photo op wall — a place where guests step into the art and take home a piece of Moab magic. Bold, cosmic, deeply emotional, and unmistakably Moab.
The Front Welcome Wall
Framing the entrance to our office, the mural wraps around with a warm desert sunset and our brand logo painted seamlessly into the landscape — a perfect blend of identity and art that welcomes every guest who arrives.
Meet the Artist: Jade Bamford
Jade Bamford — Traveling Muralist
This mural is the work of Jade Bamford, a talented traveling muralist whose work spans Southern Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Known for large-scale outdoor works that blend realism, symbolism, and vibrant color, Jade brings a rare ability to translate the soul of a place onto a wall.
This project was both a commission and a true collaboration — we worked closely with Jade to ensure every element reflected not just the visual beauty of Moab, but the feeling of being here: the freedom, the history, the adventure, and the community. We're honored to have her work permanently rooted here in Moab.
Why We Created This Mural
At Edge of the Desert Inn, we've always believed that where you stay should be part of the experience — not just a place to sleep. Moab has an incredibly vibrant arts community, and we wanted Edge of the Desert to reflect that energy.
Three Reasons Behind the Mural
- To enhance the guest experience — Art transforms a space. From the moment you arrive, we want you to feel the spirit of Moab.
- To connect with the Moab arts community — Supporting local and regional artists matters to us. Jade's work represents exactly the kind of creative talent that thrives in the desert Southwest.
- To tell our story — Edge of the Desert isn't just an inn. It's a basecamp for adventure, a gathering place for travelers, and a home away from home. This mural says all of that without a single word.
